Beginner's Mind

The only thing I remember from Shunryu Suzuki's Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind is that once one claims to be an expert one has automatically shut himself off to new possibilities.  The beginner's mind is open to new learning, new perspectives, and new possibilities; it is excited to learn the possible trajectory of things.

Perhaps the expert is full of wisdom; I do not advocate throwing out tradition (it is, after all, tradition for a reason), but somehow, maybe with an attitude of humility, if we seek to attain a beginner's mind in all things, maybe we can approach life with the excitement and abandon of a three-year-old.

Maybe that's a good approach for blogging too.
